Atami Castle isn't your typical quiet museum built in 1959. However, for today's travelers, it has evolved into a beloved cultural theme park where you can experience Japanese culture in a fun, casual way.
Unlike authentic castles where you often have to whisper and take off your shoes, here you are encouraged to laugh, take photos, and play games. With elevators making it fully accessible, it offers the best views in the region without the difficult climb.
The Best View in Atami (360° Panorama)
The biggest reason to visit is the view. Located atop Mt. Nishikigaura, the castle offers a stunning vantage point you won't find anywhere else.
Ocean views: On clear days, you can see Hatsushima and Oshima islands, the Izu Peninsula, and even the Boso Peninsula across the water.
Springtime: In spring, the contrast of pink cherry blossoms, the white castle, and the blue ocean creates a legendary photo spot.
Casual & Intuitive "Edo" Experiences

Recommended route:
Atami Ropeway: Start your adventure with a 3-minute aerial ride from the port area. It sets the mood for excitement.
Atami Castle: Enjoy the views and culture casually.
Trick Art Museum: Located right next to the castle, this museum is full of optical illusions where you can take funny photos. It overcomes language barriers and is great for families.
Visitor Guide & Access
Access tip: The road to the castle is steep. While it is possible to walk from the main road, we recommend using the bus or ropeway for a more comfortable trip.
Best way to go:
From Atami Station, go to bus stop no. 7.
Take the bus bound for Korakuen or Atami Port (approx. 10 min).
Get off at Korakuen and take the Atami Ropeway (approx. 3 min).
From the top station, it is a 3-minute easy walk.
(Note: The sightseeing Yu-Yu-Bus is currently out of service. Please use the local bus.)
